First, loosen the two screws on the back of the mill with a phillips head screwdriver. It will only take about a quarter turn on these screws to free the rollers. After loosening the screws, just turn the knobs on either side of the mill to adjust each side of the roller gap. Put the feeler gauge into the gap as you adjust the knobs.

Assembly was easy despite the lack of instructions; most of it was common sense. Setting the mill gap took a bit to figure out, but once I realized how the cams move the adjustable roller it made sense. The .032 setting made for a perfect crush for my eBIAB rig. I would highly recommend this mill to anyone from novice to expert.

UPDATE: So we adjusted the mill to a couple different settings that looked in the range, then compared the grind side by side using both Gambrinus ESB and GW Pale Ale malt. Found one that looked best overall on visual inspection and used it. Got 85% efficiency on a (19 plato) wort.

I milled both sets of grain consecutively, starting with the coarse grist, running it through my 2roller mill with a gap setting of inches (1 mm), which cracks the hull and exposes the starch without completely demolishing the grain. This is a common default setting for many popular homebrew mills.

I just got my Barley Crusher grain mill. I'll be brewing partial mash BIAB with 57 lbs of grain. I have a Barley Crusher mill and I like it just fine. I bought it because I was getting an inconsistent coarse crush from my LHBS. I brew BIAB so a finer crush was important to me and consistency was even more important to reliably reproduce the same beer. My gap is at .024 but once again I BIAB so the concept of a stuck sparge is foreign to me.

With a Barley Crusher you can't change the gap without loosening/tightening two set screws, so you can't adjust it on the fly, unfortunately. My drill has two settings "1" or "2" and I think 1 is 400rpm so I was using that. The barley crusher site mentions this, so that is why I thought 400rpm was ok (and has seriously been awesome for months arg):

Try tightening your gap, don't worry about how your crush looks relative to your old corona mill. I have used a barley crusher for about 4 years. I tightened mine up from the factory setting to about .032". It worked great and gave me great efficiency (8085%) for about three years and has been slowly wearing out over the last year or so.

The gap is set at .045" and produces an excellent crush on barley malt. Adjust the mill gap setting to .030" for rye malt. If the grains are really small then adjust accordingly. I leave the Barley Crusher gap ~.035 for barley, wheat rye. I always mill wheat rye first and mill it twice before milling the barley.

At 115 it's not a small investment, but grain mills can easily get above 200 so it's not on the higher end of the price range. It comes with a 7 lb capacity aluminum hopper. If you want a 15 lb hopper, the total cost comes to 138. I decided to save 23 and do the minimal extra effort of refilling the smaller hopper.

I have 16 5055# sacks of grain plus specialty grains through my CK mill and havent needed to take it apart, clean it or readjust the gap.. The only time Ive touched the gap settings was for efficiency reasons. If your Barley crusher is still working with regular use Id consider yourself lucky.

my barley crusher is two mo. old and there is now a flat milled into the shaft. not a very technical job of crushing the grain so i suppose that any mill will be about the same with a similiar setup. the reason i bought the BC is that it was ready to use 1 min out of the box. my eff. did jump from 65(store crush)to 78% and has been consistent since then

The gap was back to factory setting. I tightened it back down to my preferred .030 gap. Will remain to be seen how long that oring lasts with that gap setting. Ran 9 lbs of grain through without a hitch. Picked up the grain and took off, crushed perfectly, no issue. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with performance of the unit now.

I use a Barley Crusher Malt Mill with a Harbor Freight drill (Chicago Electric). I'd have to double check the model but it's very similar to this.. It's a big pain in the ass to hold the trigger at the perfect tension to get a good speed on the mill.

Make sure you reset your mill gap width to the desired setting. With my Barley Crusher, the factory width setting is indicated by a pair of corresponding marks on the roller adjustment shaft and the mill body itself. I like to tighten the gap to just a hair past the marks, maybe 1/16 of a turn.
