[/quote] I think that a "labyrint" (as it is called in the Netherlands) will do just that.. if you have a "collar on the spindle, any coolant will be swept off, when you put a ring around it, any fluid will just flow to the bottom, and back into the machine

Hi guys, I've decided I'm going to build a CNC lathe, I've got a little more time and money at the moment so I'm about ready to start this project. I've put my mini mill cnc conversion on hold because the mounts are out of alignment anyway and it would be helpful if i had a lathe to build some new mounts, also I've got a few other projects planned using the lathe.

I've bought this mill, for a very decent price . Only, it wasn't really a mill, but a block of cast and two crates of parts . It took me a few weeks, but now it's back together again, and fully functional . The mill is an alcera 600, constructed in 1974 . Now there's one part missing, the indexed ring for the Yaxis spindle .

Re: Horizontal mini mill examples. Yes, definitely better to stay with a purpose built machine like the PM25. They make an R8 4" 3 jaw chuck. I did a lot of cnc turning with one on the 8x30 vertical mill I used to have. For short parts, with some gang tooling, you can make parts as fast as any lathe.
